Go off-grid and escape busy lifestyles at this bijou bolthole in the Lake District National Park. Walk wildlife trails, and explore the highlights of this World Heritage Site.

This romantic hideaway is part of a complex of 17th-century farm properties on National Trust farmland, and has been refurbished as a cosy holiday home, attached to the original farmhouse. It offers spectacular countryside views, less than half a mile from Buttermere village and lake - look out for The Lone Tree, a much-photographed birch by the shore. Meet Herdwick and Cheviot sheep, Dexter cattle and Lancashire Heeler dogs at work on the farm as you venture out on fell hikes over Grasmoor (2.5 miles), and Red Pike (17.5 miles). Follow woodland bluebell trails through Buttermere and Crummock Water (1 mile). Take time out in the Georgian market town of Cockermouth (10.5 miles) which has shops, eateries and heritage attractions.

On arrival, enter the side door of this charming country cottage and step into the porch where there’s an electric heater and storage space for coats and boots. Walk into the hall where there’s a family bathroom to the left side with a shower over the bath, and WC. After a day out exploring the Lake District World Heritage Site, you’ll appreciate the light and airy open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area. Make delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen which features. Make home-cooked meals together in the well-equipped kitchen which includes an oven, fridge/freezer, coffee maker, and convenient dishwasher, plus ample storage space. Feast in the dining area and enjoy the garden views. After dinner, snuggle up on the sofa for two by the warmth of the pebble effect electric fire and enjoy fell and lake views through the bright windows; in the evening enjoy film nights on the TV with Freesat, or read a favourite novel. The spacious king-size bedroom has beautiful bedside tables and double wardrobes with ample storage space for your luggage and market town gift shopping.

Outside, you’ll find a private enclosed lawned garden with a garden bench and gravelled area, plus a stone BBQ space for al fresco dining under the stars. Off-road parking is available for one car (park on the gravelled area in the garden or in front of the garden gate). There’s a farm cafe on site with Wi-Fi, and there’s a pub and shop within 0.5 miles.

If you want an amazing location and a place to sleep and get clean at the end of the day, this is the place. It is basic but worth the money.

Fabulous location, friendly and helpful owners. Well equipped kitchen, but bathroom could do with an update. No shops nearby - so bring every food item youll need. Would highly recommend Sykes farm cafe and the Bridge hotel. These are also useful for wifi.

We had a wonderful week at Yew Tree. The cottage was perfect for us...a brilliant base...cosy with fabulous views and a wonderful gateway to the magic of Buttermere! We'll definitely be booking again!

The cottage had some positive points but was optimistically billed as 4 star, when it should be 3 max. The kitchen and bathroom need updating, there is mould in the bathroom and on many of the windows, and we were unable to open some of the windows. The shower in the bathroom is a mere trickle and has a tendency to turn freezing cold for no obviousRead more reason. The cottage hadn't been cleaned very well and the fridge hadn't been switched on. This is a lovely cottage that has all you need for a wonderful stay. Wonderful views close to all walks. 2 pubs, 2 tea rooms on doorstep. Lovely garden that takes in the afternoon and early evening sun. If you want a quiet peaceful break this is the place for you. Must agree with previous visitors that the bathroom is a little cold.

Cottage is on a working farm next to a cafe Its very handy for all local walks Seeing all the baby lambs was a bonus Ideal if your into photography No Wi-Fi but we new that before booking , also no cell phone signal so bear that in mind Wi-Fi was available in the local cafes and pubs
