Set in rural splendour with mountains and woodland on its doorstep, this delightful cottage is a comfortable base for exploring the Lake District National Park.

Overlooking the Catbells with Causey Pike and Barrow on the horizon, this charming cottage sleeps six guests and is set within 2 acres of woodland and mature gardens. The surrounding countryside has literacy connections having inspired the works of Beatrix Potter, so you’ll soon be losing yourself amongst the mountainous landscape as you venture further into the Newlands Valley. A short 5.5-mile walk will bring you to beautiful Derwentwater, where you can enjoy a quiet walk around the shoreline or embrace your adventurous side and try popular water sports such as sailing and kayaking. Further afield, Whinlatter Forest is a must for cycling and walking 4.5 miles away, while foodies and retail therapy enthusiasts will appreciate Keswick with its numerous eateries and independent shops 4 miles away.

Follow the gravelled pathway and step through the porch to discover a cosy sitting room with a feature fireplace, a wood burner and comfortable sofas, just the ticket for cosy evenings curled up inside making use of the TV and DVD. Next, the simply presented kitchen is equipped with an electric oven, halogen hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a washer/dryer for all your culinary and laundry needs. There is a dining table with seating for six, and completing the ground floor is an additional WC. Upstairs, the spacious bathroom has a shower over the bath and a WC. Three bedrooms provide cosy sleeping quarters for your entire party, offering a choice between two double bedrooms or a pretty twin and all offer fell views of Causey Pike or Catbells.

A pleasant patio with seating offers a tranquil setting for al fresco meals and excellent views. There is ample lawn space, and to the rear of the garden there is a path through a small patch of woodland with a mill pond and access to the nearby river through a back gate. The shared driveway has ample off-road parking. Storage for bikes is available in the small lockable outhouse, which also houses the tumble dryer.

Our second visit to this brilliantly located cottage. Amazing views from the beautiful gardens, complete with a sun terrace for outdoor dining and great woodlands/stream for our cocker spaniel. Quiet and peaceful surroundings, but only a couple of miles to our favourite Derwentwater walks and 4 miles to Keswick for all facilities. Owners live next Read moredoor and are extremely helpful, but not obtrusive. We have booked again for next year. Thank you. Hide

The biscuits & tea on arrival was a welcome touch. The owner could not be more organised & efficient, he has everything covered. The cottage is more than well equipped. There was even a set of weighing scales & a garlic crusher. I need not have bothered bringing my own scales to weigh the dog's food. If mountain "bagging", country walks & fresh airRead more are on your to do list, this is definitely the cottage for you. It is situated perfectly for Catbells & Causey Pike. Top marks Hide
